See Yo La Tengo & Friends in Brooklyn This Summer!

by Alexa Salvato

Cult-classic indie-rock. Experimental improvisation. Jazz standards. If any or all of this appeals to you, check out Little Black Egg Big Band and Oren Ambarchi’s show at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn coming up in June.

Little Black Egg Big Band, a.k.a. Yo La Tengo & Friends, includes the three members of Yo La Tengo, Georgia Hubley, Ira Kaplan and James McNew (Hubley’s solo project is called Little Black Egg); bassist Tony Maimone, formerly of Pere Ubu; jazz artists Susie Ibarra, Daniel Carter and Taylor Ho Bynum; and many more still to be announced. Oren Ambarchi will also give a solo improvised performance. The concert will be presented by the ISSUE Project Room along with Pioneer Works Center for Art and Innovation.

Although the show’s not ‘til Sunday, June 28, tickets for the public will be on sale on Monday, May 18. How much more fun could you have on a summer Sunday?

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8. Pioneer Works is located at 159 Pioneer Street, Brooklyn. You can buy tickets here.
