Satisfied shoppers at yesterday’s Spring Fling Craftacular, held in Brooklyn NY.

The BUST office is basking in the afterglow of the thrilling time had by all at yesterday’s, Spring Fling Craftacular. From the moment the doors opened till, the last booths were disassembled and packed up, the pace was frenetic. Throughout the day thousands perused the finest wares from excellent crafters, enjoyed a rotation of live DJ’s, and took in the ambiance of the venue, ‘Warsaw: the Polish National Home.’ Modeled after a traditional Polish dance hall, replete with large oil paintings, gilt mirrors, green marble walls, and a vaulted ceiling; the Warsaw blended 19th century elegance with 60’s space-race charm.

Highlights of the event included a delicious vegan cooking demo hosted by the folks from Farm Sanctuary. They presented meat alternatives that pleased even as entrenched a carnivore as myself. Provocraft exhibited their sleek user friendly silk-screening device known as the yudu, and gave out custom designed eco-friendly tote bags. The folks from Trees Not Trash inspired attendees with their lessons in the practice of guerilla gardening. Entrants in BUST’s; free raffle salivated over the bicycle, sewing machine, yudu, designer pinatas, and goodie basket compiled of gifts from every vendor present. All these will go to one very luck person in a few days when the name is drawn. Check out our vendors page to view or contact any of the artisans in attendance.
The line curled around the block as the lucky first 250 entrants received gift bags, laden with treats ranging from soft organic cotton socks, to lip gloss and calendars. Copies of our most recent magazines adorned every open surface as the masses in attendance were successfully recruited to the BUST cause.

To me the most exciting part of the Craftacular was the incredible collection of characters it allowed to congregate. Spending most of the day bumping into strangers, I was continually impressed, by the spectrum of talents, stories, faces, and inspirations that brought everyone from the curious Polish neighbors next door, to the devoted craft fanatics (many of whom traveled great distances) out to Brooklyn to support excellent artisans.

Be sure to keep the upcoming Holiday Craftacular on your radar for more good times and quality wares. We would love to thank everyone who worked hard to pull the craftacular off and especially thank our excellent sponsors: Tree’s Not Trash, Provocraft, and Farm Sanctuary. -Peter
