Jaunt on down to the Superchief gallery Friday for the opening reception of julia Sinelnikova's solo exhibition, Rootwork. Julia is an interdisciplinary artist who works with holograms, performance, and digital culture. Through her signature light installations, the 7,000 sqft warehouse transforms into a landscape for her immersive cyber-punk environment Rootkit. Through projections, hand mylar, and more, Julia creates a living duplication of the often invisible world of cyber warfare. Julia fuses light, sound and gifs with Superchief’s collection of projectors, 25ft wide screens and space to build a strange and awe-inspiring metaverse.
Surrounded by Julia’s incredible crystalline creations, the opening of Rootkitwill include a performance called Snow Crash. A stellar cast brings to life climactic scenes based on a novel, Snow Crash, the titular inspiration for the show. The opening will also include a performance by Cecily Feitel, and folks are invited to dance and party to DJ sets by Picture Plane 'til midnight.
If you can't make it, never fear, Rootkit is up until February 9th.
