Hunger Games fans rejoice! Effie (who'll be played by Elizabeth Banks in the upcoming film adaptation) is now the face of China Glaze’s new line of nail prods, "Capitol Colours." In the ad, Banks-as-Effie is styled in futuristic awesomeness with nutty lashes, violet hair, and the cutest heart-shaped lipstick. China Glaze offers fans twelve new shades, from a drab gray to the sparkliest orange I've ever seen. The browns are also enticing--they have a spicy richness that reminds us of our girl Effie. The polishes will be available on March 1, 2012--hope you can stand the wait. Read More
To all NYC fashionista BUST-ies:DVF, at 260 Fifth Avenue, is having a sample sale. Though I sometimes have a problem with sample sales, since they're not usually inclusive of all body types, I *do* like the idea of being somewhat able to afford well-made digs from a rad designer at more reasonable prices. I use the word "reasonable" lightly. Read More
If you've got a design nerd in your life, you probably know that Pantone, the self-proclaimed “world-renowned authority on color,” announces a "color of the year" annually. Essentially, the company predicts what color will be dominating home-goods, design, and cosmetic stores the following year. And “Tangerine Tango”, a dramatic red-orange, will apparently be THE color of 2012--you should expect to see it on everything from throw pillows to nail polish. Read More
A few years ago, I kicked a nearly lifelong nail-biting habit, and am currently enjoying the spoils: normal-person, non-gnawed-on hands. To celebrate my talons—and hopefully stop myself from backsliding—I’ve been keeping my nails painted as much as I can. Luckily, I’m in good company—all my buddies and the other GLOB (Gorgeous Ladies of BUST) are nail-polish addicts. I especially like glittery stuff, because, as far as I’m concerned, metallic sparkles are a neutral. Read More
Christmas is only weeks away, and most of us are in the throes of gift-hunting and buying. But if you haven't yet found the perfect present, this guide can help you find *just* the right thing for your mom, sister, boss, or girlfriend. The toughest part of owning both these boss t-shirts will be deciding which to wear on a given day. Read More
David Fincher's adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is one of the most anticipated films of the year; beyond the murder-heavy, not-exactly-popcorn-material plot (said to remain very faithful to Stieg Larsson's best-selling novel), a lot of the hype is due to The Girl herself.  After months of speculation over who would play asocial hacker Lisbeth Salander, the first photos of a black-haired, pierced, fully-transformed and hauntingly strange-beautiful Rooney Mara appeared-- and it was clear that Salander had some serious icon potential. Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander for W. Read More
I've seen plenty of dudes sportin' the classic letterman jacket, but it's not until recently that I'm seeing ladies get in on the action as well. The bow ties, loafers, and cardigans of school years past have since become staples in many people's wardrobes, so it's only natural that this schoolyard gear would also make an appearance. The jackets were all over the runway, at shows from Alexander Wang and Phillip Lim to Moschino and Rag & Bone. They can now be seen on celebrities and stylish street stylers alike. Read More
Need a new pair of shoes? Look no further than PONY’s “Check Your Self” line of vegan shoes. Not only are you buying some awesome looking kicks; you’re making a difference. For every shoe sold, $3 goes directly to the Keep A Breast Foundation, a non-profit organization that spreads breast cancer awareness through art events and educational programs. This year’s line is in collaboration with illustrator Laurie Shipley. The North Carolinian artist drew inspiration from nature, Native American and old-world sailor imagery. Read More
