BUST was in full effect at Bird's Barbershop yesterday, a cute little salon-cum-venue that offered $15 mohawks, free Dewer's drinks, water and beer, and a line-up great indie bands and DJs. This was our freebie/merch table and we met tons of cool guys and girls who wanted to check us out!     Even Khan (below) from King Khan and the Shrines was digging BUST and I'm pretty sure LA-based MC, Busdriver, who got the line-up started told the crowd he ... The world seems a bit too harsh for us lately, what with the news filled with the troubling economy plus tragic celebrity deaths. But sometimes sadness can result in beauty. The below video pretty much sums up our feelings today. Bonus points to anyone who can tell us where in NYC this looks like it was ... Read More
So, Austin is nuts. Not only is SXSW music madness perfectly suited to this a very cool, weird, and musical city, it was a breezy 75 degrees, just delightful for wandering venue to venue to sample BBQ, beer, and bands. Totally a way I can happily spend my day. It's predictably hard to get into good, free shows, because of lines and crowds. After getting my bearings on the venue-packed main drag, 6th street, I was bummed to see an epic line for the Paste Magazine ... Read More
BUST has landed in the middle of SXSW! After departing from Philadelphia  at 6:30 am, and with a two hour delay in Houston, we have finally arrived in Austin! Needless to say, Southwest Airlines was not flying the friendliest  skies today, but all is well, and both yours truly, BUST's Associate Music Editor, and Marketing gal Susan Juvet, are here and ready to fill you in on our rock 'n roll cowgirl adventures.    In true SXSW fashion, I'm ... Jack White, check. Alison Mosshart (Kills), check. the guy w the glasses (Jack Lawrence) from Raconteurs, Check. Someone (Dean Fertita) from Queens of the Stoneage, check.  Ok, put them all together and you get The Dead Weather, and judging from the two songs I've heard, this is going to be very, very good. They played a show last night at the opening of Jack Whites new Third Man Records building in downtown Nashville, and according to the press release, the ... Read More

Chairlift on tour!

BY Lisa in Music Stuff

Yeah, you've heard their ridiculously catchy tune 'Bruises' on that iPod commercial but seriously, this Brooklyn-based trio is so much more than that. I caught their show at the Williamsburg Music Hall awhile back when they opened for Yeasayer (LOVE!) and it says a lot when the first band draws as big a crowd as the headliner. Go catch them on their new tour that kicks off this week (click here for dates), especially ... Read More

In the mix

BY Dawn in Music Stuff

While doing a little early Spring cleaning, i unearthed 3 converse shoeboxes of old mixtapes. Some probably haven't been listened to in over 10 years. Most are covered with various stickers, magazine cut outs, and sparkley nail polish. A lot are from ex boyfriends and bff's, (so bittersweetly nostaligic), one was a homemade demo from my very shortlived surf rock band, The Shortwaves (fact!), and others were random mixes I made for trips and specific bus rides. I ... Read More
