Why walk together when you can rock together?  Such must have been the mentality of lovebirds-turned-songbirds Jenny and Johnny. Jenny and Johnny is the musical pairing of indie rock queen, Jenny Lewis, and her equally talented beau Johnathan Rice. The couple met back in 2005 through Bright Eyes front-man Connor Oberst and have been inseparable ever since--Rice joining Lewis’ tour in 2006 for the release of her debut solo album Rabbit Fur Coat. Blame Degrassi

BY Emilie Branch in Music

Before R&B sensation Drake or “Dizzy Drake”, was in with the Young Money crew he had a leading role in Degrassi as character Jimmy Brooks. Jimmy gets broken up with repeatedly and literally shot in the back, which results in his being confined to a wheelchair. Though he overcomes adversity and discovers his musical talent through this disability, he still gets his heart broken a third time. Maybe it’s this Degrassi baggage that’s been weighing down on the young Canadian, but something is on Drake’s mind. Read More
Need a portal to glamour? Look no further. I'm on my way to Iowa to join up with Leslie and the Lys on a short midwest tour. The kick off is to occur at the Iowa State Fair, Leslie Hall's childhood dream come true! I've been photographing Leslie Hall for nearly four years so check the Bust blog all week for the insider saga that is about to begin. Read More
I know that recently I posted No Doubt's Excuse Me, Mr. and said that it was my "gettin' pumped" song, but I have a confession to make. It's not the only one. *gasp!* Alas, it is true, I don't work out, but I have almost a constant mental list of songs that get me geared up for the day. My life's been feeling a little lackluster as of late ("WHAT AM I DOING WHERE AM I GOING WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING AHHHHHH"), and so, when I find myself in times of trouble, my iPod shuffle comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, "let it be me. The much beloved indie/weirdo band Animal Collective has paired up with director Danny Perez for a visual album called Oddsac. What this project proves, at least to me while watching it wide-eyed on a Sunday afternoon, is that if you hand a group of boys a video camera, they will make something that's all about egg pods and slimy mutants with worm heads.  Oddsac comes in a paperback sized package, complete with a hard bound picture book that is cryptic, and has no words other than stuff like "the ectoplasm inside. Coming across new tracks by Andre 3000 is basically like finding a grocery bag full of money. He is such an elusive character, traipsing around the Deep South like he owns the place...i mean, he kind-of does.  His music is always so fresh and raw, and he makes no apologies for his bona fide rhymes.  Yesterday Limelight Exclusives dropped their new mixed tape featuring a new track by the ATLien, "I Do."  This track is super chill-  Andre lays his feelings on the line to his lady, and confesses how he wants to start a family with her. Loving this duo from Melbourne Australia, Super Wild Horses. You may recall Everett True wrote about them in the magazine last winter. Amy and Hayley (they keep it mysterious- no last names!) play fuzzed out garage-y, primitive pop rock, and as you can see from this video for Golden Town, they are adorable! Their first full length, Fifteen, will be released next week on HoZac records here in the US. If you like bands like The Breeders, Vivian Girls, etc, (and really, who doesn't? You should check them out. Read More
I love Arcade Fire. And while I was one click away from buying my ticket to their U.S record release show for The Suburbs last week at Madison Square Garden, I went against my instinct and bought a bus ticket out of town instead. But it worked out in my favor regardless. Turns out director Terry Gilliam livecasted the entire show on YouTube for everyone who missed it. But the recording of the show is more than just a video recording, Gilliam seemed to layer images over one another to capture the breadth of the band as well as the streaming images in the background. Longing for some more MIA shenanigans? Well, in that case, here you go! I present to you the new video for XXXO off her new album MAYA. Welcome to the ex-MySpacer's glittery HTML comment nightmare, kiddies. But seriously, it's all in good fun. I mean, I know she's a powerful lady, but I wonder if she's powerful enough to finally sink that SPAM-infested Titanic. Okay, I kid, I kid...just watch it and see for yourselves! You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this video PS. I also wonder how Tarantino feels about getting name-dropped by MIA! What up, street cred! [image: lettertojane. Read More

Masshysteri Steals Our Hearts

BY Nissa in Music

Ex-Blondie bassist Greta Brinkman said it best when referring to women in the music scene in the 1980's:"At that time, there was this shining moment in American DIY music when everybody was in their own bands, driving around in the back of a beat-up van and putting on shows in their basement. And every band had at least one woman in, it seemed, it was no big deal. It wasn't until the late 1980s when everything went testosterone-mad that the scene became hostile towards women, but in the early to mid 1980s there was a time when it was great for women. Read More
