Happening RIGHT NOW at Macy’s Herald Square: the anti-sexism protest group UltraViolet is gathering outside of the iconic Macy’s location to protest the company’s continued lobbying – and you won’t believe this – against equal pay for women. A bill mandating equal pay for equal work passed through Texas legislature – which is a miracle of itself – but Governor Rick Perry vetoed the bill at Macy’s behest, ... Read More
Everyone remembers the kick-ass filibuster by Sen. Wendy Davis which prevented the vote on SB-5, a Texas bill which would prevent abortions after 20 weeks as well as imposing costly requirements on abortion clinics and providers; essentially, this bill intensely reduces access to abortions on many levels. Even though Davis was able to postpone the vote, the Texas House Affairs committee managed to bring it to the table again after Gov. Rick Perry called a ... Read More
Last month, Texas lost the Medicaid Women’s Health Program, which formerly served 130,000 low-income women by funding clinics that provided preventative care. In "Well, That Was Inevitable" news, Rick Perry announced today that he's dropping his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. His campaign started out strong but faded fast after the politician's dismal performances in debates where it seemed like he couldn't remember the basic bullet points of his platform or form complete sentences.  After his homophobic-rant of a campaign ad disgusted Americans from all ends of the political spectrum earlier this ... A federal judge has blocked key parts of a Texas abortion law that would require doctors to provide a sonogram to pregnant women before they go through with the procedure. As written, the law would require women seeking an abortion in Texas to view a picture of the embryo or fetus and hear a description of its development before having the procedure. It was to take effect on September 1.     U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks found several portions of ... Read More
