Apparently publishing companies are finally catching on to something we’ve known for a while: Women read, too! Specifically graphic novels, according to an article in The Wall Street Journal.
Until recently, graphic novel subject matter has skewed remarkably male. Much like other male-dominated industries, publishers have been shooting themselves in the boot by ignoring a huge faction of their potential audience. Read More
Graphic novels are awesome, hands down. From Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by author, and recently-named 2014 MacArthur Fellow, Alison Bechdel to Persepolis by novelist/ director Marjane Satrapi, some of my favorite books are graphic novels, which is why I was so psyched to see that “Female Force” is issuing a new comic book about the lives of Angelina Jolie, Arianna Huffington, Melinda Gates and Gloria Steinem. I’m not exaggerating when I say that Kate Leth is everything I want to be. I’m not the only one who sees her this way, tons of little girls (and boys too!) are calling her a hero after the release of her latest graphic novel, Adventure Time: Seeing Red.

If you were intrigued by Lindner’s work, or are interested in finding new graphic memoirs of the type that Bechdel is famous for, check out this article on Flavorwire: “8 Worthy Successors to Alison Bechdel”.

Have you been jonesing for more time with the complicated and fascinating Lisbeth Salander? If so, this is your lucky week-- we just got word that The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is being adapted into a graphic novel (to be published by DC Comics/Vertigo). Award-winning crime author Denise Mina will write The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: Book One, with art by Lee Bermejo, Leonardo Manco, and Andrea Mutti. The novels are already plenty suspenseful and action-packed, so it’s a pretty natural step to turn them into awesomely artistic graphic novels. Read More
