Ever dance merrily in a room full of feminists?
Me neither, until I partied Planned Parenthood style on Tuesday at their 11th annual Summer Sex and Spirits event, a night I’d describe as half fundraiser/silent auction, half rave. I spent my evening at the Broad Street Ballroom enjoying the fabulous open bar (they had a cocktail named the Ruth GINsburg), boogeying to perfectly DJ’ed music, and marveling at the work of Mistress B, a leather-clad balloon dominatrix who dispenses helium for her latex creations through a nipple pump. Gabrielle Union designed a Planned Parenthood Action Fund t-shirt to encourage women to vote in the midterm elections on Nov. 4. Many states are battling their local politicians who are attempting to put restrictions on women’s health.
Union’s shirt is the second shirt designed by a celebrity, the first by Scarlett Johansson, in order to show what is at risk in the upcoming election. Upcoming celebrity t-shirt designers include Orange is the New Black stars Natasha Lyonne and Selenis Leyva. Union's shirt showcases a key issue being battled, access to birth control. Read More

Yesterday North Carolina became the third state in the last month to defund Planned Parenthood. In the early hours of the morning the state House voted 73-46 to override the governor’s veto with five Democrats helping to override the veto out of fear of a government shutdown. This news comes only weeks after Kansas and Indiana passed bills defunding Title X of the Public Health Service Act. Indiana has gone even further and is attempting to bar those receiving Medicaid benefits from using Planned Parenthoods for any health service. Read More
