“Have you ever been to Paris? Neither have I. Neither have I.” Those are still the lyrics to Lizzo’s LIZZOBANGERS track, “Paris,” but they are not longer true for the rapper, whose debut album was named #1 Album of 2013 by us here at BUST. With roots in Houston and Detroit, but now based in the Twin Cities, Lizzo told Jay-Z’s Life+Times that when she wrote the song, she had never in fact been to Paris. A year after her album ... Chanel debuted their Spring/Summer 2015 collection on a fake Parisian boulevard within Grand Palais in Paris. The show’s clothing had a 1970s vibe with the tweed pantsuits and bright colorful blouses. It could have been a nod to the feminist movement in the seventies, since Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel’s creative director, ended the show with a feminist protest. Normally, I would be happy that feminism has reached a new audience but I don’t think the message was ... Read More
While I was beginning to believe only Millennials were obsessed with computers, Mickey Mouse and selfies, artist Ultra Violet (Isabelle Collin Dufresne) took these obsessions to the next level. She passed away on June 14th at 78 years old, but we can can remember her for the beautiful art instillations she created that prompted the viewer to interpret iconic symbols in our society in a completely different way.  In her day, Ultra Violet was a purple-haired ... Elodie Fiers  Media AnalystParis, France Tell me about what you’re wearing. The sweater is vintage from Etsy—it was a gift. The collar’s from Zara, and it cost around $30. Oh mon dieu! C’est incroyable!  Ok, so my French is a lil' rusty, but that doesn’t stop me from loving Paris, France. I even have a tattoo of the Eiffel Tower because I love that city so much. So if you had seen my face when I found out that Paris’s upcoming mayoral race IS ALL FEMALE, you probably would’ve been floored. Yep, this year, four lovely ladies are running for mayor.  Previously in 2008, two female candidates ran for ... Read More
According to The Cut, A.F. Vandevorst’s fashion show in Paris today didn’t feature any black models, which is unfortunately fairly common. But what struck audience members as particularly odd about the show was that a bunch of these white models had black paint coating their arms and legs. This little piece of racist oddity comes on the heels of this week’s fashion blackface controversy, which we covered yesterday. At this point it’s almost ... Read More
