One year ago today, V-Day, a global activist movement, began a call to action based on the statistic that one in three women in the world will be beaten or raped in her lifetime, adding up to one billion women and girls. V-Day organized a One Billion Rising campaign that is taking place today, February 14th, 2013. Women and men in 203 countries are uniting in the largest day of mass action to stop violence against women and girls everywhere. V-Day 2013 is a year away. That's enough time for you, me, Eve Ensler, and a billion of our friends to rise together to end violence against women.
Personally, I've loved Ensler's work for the past 4 years, ever since I was a Florida State Women’s Center volunteer that worked the door at a showing of the Vagina Monologues. I cringe now when I remember texting my friend, “Why do 'radical feminists' use the word vagina all the time?
