We have some good news, and then we have some bad news. Good news: Amnesty International has drafted a policy to decriminalize the buying and selling of consensual sex between adults. This does not include the decriminalization of sex trafficking, the buying and selling of sex involving a minor, nor the buying and selling of sex involving coercion, deception, threats, or violence. This is the decriminalization of buying and selling sex between people over the age of eighteen who have made the conscious decision that they would like to either purchase or sell sex. Clear? Okay.   Jenny Lewis is one of my favorite musicians of all time. I didn’t think my love for this maven could’ve grown any more after years of touring as one-half of my favorite band Rilo Kiley, her very successful solo albums Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins: Rabbit Fur Coat and Acid Tongue, or the fact that she played Phyllis Nefler’s daughter in the cult classic Troop Beverly Hills. But she’s topped everything, and the Internet might just explode, with her new music video for her single “Just One of the Guys”. Read More
Debbie Harry Sports Striped Leggings   We’ve all read or heard some variation on the “leggings are not pants” speech. And although everyone’s views on fashion are valid, a lot of the discourse surrounding leggings centers around subtle body-shaming. In well-meaning articles on clothing “dos” and “don’ts,” bloggers use language that can be harmful. Of the garment, one writes, “how to avoid the dreaded sausage-in-too-tight-casing look? Aim not to think of them as trousers. Read More
For years, creators of superhero movies have shrugged off questions addressing the scarcity of women stars, echoing the sentiment, “Comic books are for boys.” But in recent films, I have noticed a shift. I was thrilled to see Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) and Miranda Tate (Marion Cotillard) in The Dark Knight Rises; both were complex, powerful, terrifying yet sympathetic heroines (or anti-heroines, if you prefer). Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) graced the screen and kicked some butt in The Avengers. Read More
Amanda Seyfried rose to prominence as the girl who was blessed with ESPN boobs in Tina Fey’s brilliant Mean Girls.      She was just shy of 20 when the movie blew up, and now, almost a decade later, her career has all but followed the same progression.  Between her turn as flaxen-haired, honey-voiced Cosette in the critically acclaimed Les Miserables, and her upcoming role as porn star Linda Lovelace – Ms. Deep Throat herself, Seyfried is unquestionably killing it. This week, the Internet seems really mad at Anne Hathaway, mostly for not being Jennifer Lawrence. A Salon article on Tuesday begged the question “Is it a gender double-standard—or is it her face?” The article concludes that, while all women in the public eye face a ridiculous amount of scrutiny, Hathaway seems to have it particularly bad. People hate when she seems too polished, and think her attempts at relatability are awkward and forced. Her naked ambition strikes bloggers as ugly and unflattering, but her faux-humility is even worse. Read More

It seems to be that we're being bombarded by trailers lately. First it was The Great Gatsby courtesy of Baz Luhrman, and now it's Tom Hooper's Les Misérables. The film stars Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway, and leads me to wonder exactly how much flack Anne will catch for this one. People have been kind of down on Anne ever since she hosted the Academy Awards with James Franco. Then it was her casting as Catwoman that had fanboys freaking out over the integrity of The Dark Knight Rises. Read More
On a recent episode of Conan, Anne Hathaway spat a rap - inspired by Lil' Wayne - to let us all know that she goes hard when she's angry. And because it's Anne Hathaway, it's somewhat charming. Read More
