I was a little girl when TLC came on the scene, and I wish someone had introduced my childhood self to the unbelievable R&B girl band. Sadly, I didn’t discover them until last year (while watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta, I’m embarrassed to admit). Band members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Kandi Buruss are so talented; together, they create saucy, biting, and brave music. Famous for their outspoken lyrics and inspiring girl power, the band was never the type to shy away from recording angry, empowering, totally awesome songs. In No Scrubs, for example, they bash womanizers and men who manipulate women.
The band is not only legendary, but their story is incredible, heartbreaking, and ultimately inspiring. The band broke up because of some drama, and it lost one of its members to a brutal accident. This band has a rich history of success, hardship, and glory. I think that its story is one of hope.
It’s about time someone made a biographical film on TLC, and VH1 is doing just that with new film CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story. The film stars Drew Sidora as Watkins, Lil Mama as Lopes, and Keke Palmer as Thomas, and I could not be more excited. The movie will premiere on VH1 on October 21st. Watch the fantastic promo below!
