Show review: Starkid Space Tour and Charlene Kaye

by Laurie Henzel

Last night I got to go to a concert at Irving Plaza to see some of my favorite people perform some of my favorite songs. It was called the Starkid SPACE Tour, and yes it sounds stupid, but they are really the funniest, most talented group of people ever. I waited in line with my friends (fellow 8th graders) for 5 hours, and when we finally got in it was extremely cramped but it was still exciting just to be there.  The crowd was made up of 99% girls, probably 13-25 years old.

The guitar player for the band on the tour, Charlene Kaye, opened up the show with her ownsongs. She came out with a crazy mask and played loudly on her guitar while she introduced the show. For the next hour, Charlene played many of her songs while everyone sang and danced with her. Near the end, one of the Starkids (who plays Blaine on Glee), Darren Criss came out with her and they sang a duet called Dress and Tie (see video below). It was very cute and everyone started freaking out that Darren had come out.

StarKid Space tour was created by the same group that made A Very Potter Musical, which is my favorite play in the world. I saw it on Youtube and me and my friends fell in love with the troupe. They have a few other plays that they wrote, which I love as well. During the tour, the Starkids played most of their songs from their four plays and told jokes and stories in between each number. I really enjoyed going to see them live, and I hope they tour again soon! By Penny Henzel

My mom (who works at BUST), said she could get me a pair of tickets if I reviewed this show.
