La Luz delivers another solid, psychedelic-influenced song cycle that rocks with their new album News of the Universe

by Michael Levine

Shana Cleveland’s La Luz delivers another solid, psychedelic-influenced song cycle that rocks and has revealing lyrics inspired by Cleveland’s recent life experiences, including childbirth and breast cancer. “Strange World” and “Dandelions” rock with fervor and razor-sharp guitar riffs. “Good Luck With Your Secret” has a French pop vibe, while instrumental “Close Your Eyes” proceeds with an undeniably wicked dance groove and Cleveland’s signature psych/surf guitar virtuosity. “Poppies” and “I’ll Go With You” float along mid-tempo, with Cleveland’s dreamy vocals leading the way. It’s easy to love La Luz, and News of the Universe makes it even easier.
