Lululemon Founder is Kinda Nutso

by Katie Fustich

Founder of Lululemon and resident bald dude Chip Wilson has always been a bit…off. In a 2009 blog post, he suggested this sigh-inducing theory:

“Breast cancer also came into prominence in the 1990’s. I suggest this was due to the number of cigarette-smoking Power Women who were on the pill (initial concentrations of hormones in the pill were very high) and taking on the stress previously left to men in the working world.”

Who knew giant piles of money also qualified you for a medical degree?

Recently, Wilson continued to share his own special brand of entitlement to women’s bodies during an interview with Bloomberg TV. Chip enlightened us all to the fact that if Lululemon’s products aren’t fitting you correctly, it’s not the low quality of the products, it’s the low quality of your body:

“It’s about rubbing through the thighs,” and “how much pressure is there,” he said. He and his wife Shannon appeared on the show to discuss a new 60-second meditation technique they recently developed (Deepak Chopra would be proud!), but the conversation unavoidably turned to Lululemon’s recent gaffes. Remember those $100 paper-thin yoga pants, y’all?

Chip here finally made it clear that if those ultra-sheer pants (which lost the company $67 million bee-tee-dubs) weren’t doing you justice, it was probably just your malformed body stretching those poor lil’ polyester fibers within an inch of their life, and that’s all there is to it.

Shannon offered her take on the situation, as well, saying that sometimes women’s pants tend to wear out when they sit “on cement.” Good point! This cement office chair I am in right now is really doing a number on these 501’s.

I sure am glad two of the brightest scientific minds were able to grace us with these morsels of information. Let me just be the first to say that if there isn’t at least a Noble Prize nomination, something in our world is deeply wrong. But wait–could it be that Chip Wilson telling women that if they don’t have pencil legs they aren’t worthy of Lululemon is already deeply wrong?…Nah!
