Chvrches Singer Lauren Mayberry Takes On More Online Misogyny

by Olivia Harrison

Chvrches singer Lauren Mayberry confronted another dose of online misogyny yesterday following the release of the band’s newest music video for “Leave A Trace.” Mayberry responded to the sexism coming from a thread on the website 4Chan. The thread included a whole bunch of seriously lewd comments about Mayberry and her latest music video performance. I sifted through the comments so you don’t have to, and here are some of the horrible things that were said:

Mayberry and fellow band mates took to Twitter to address the comments on 4Chan. Mayberry wrote, “Dear anyone who thinks misogyny isn’t real. It is and this is what it looks like” and included a link to the 4Chan thread. The Chvrches Twitter account added: “PSA: apparently wet hair makes you a “slut”. Nice work, 4chan / humanity.”

It’s pretty hard to understand the logic behind some of these disgusting comments. Mayberry is simply dancing on water while it storms in the majority of the music video, so claims that this makes her a slut just don’t compute. But I guess that’s the thing about misogyny, it doesn’t make sense. Check out the full video below:
