For those of you who don’t know Carla Bruni, she is a quick-witted Italian-French songwriter, musician, model and the former First Lady of France. I randomly came across her music about 8 years ago while working on a short film about a French girl in New York and I loved it without even knowing who the hell she was. It’s a little jazz, a little pop, a little romance and a little wild. For me, I don’t need to understand the words to get down with certain music, and Carla’s tunes are something I can certainly get down with anytime.
After watching this interview, I just laughed a little. When the interviewer asked Carla something along the lines of, “of everyone you met while traveling the world and meeting politicians, who do you think had the best style?” Carla was very blunt and brought up the fact that politicians have so much to deal with, it doesn’t matter what color their jacket is; that the two of them sitting down and having this interview right now aren’t dressed well either, and they don’t have that much to worry about! So much for personal style, huh? Very cutting. And entertaining.
That being said, Carla always had a smile and presented herself well, she just refused to participate in meaningless banter. Though I don’t always agree with her views politically (at least since she married Nicolas Sarkozy), she confronts what she is and doesn’t put on a farce for publicity. And to be honest, I just think she makes she makes good music.
The interview went on a little bit to talk about her father, Sarkozy, her past modeling career and her new album. Though I would have preferred a little bit more talk on her new album, seeing as it’s her first in 5 years, and to be honest that’s all I want to hear from her these days.
Little French Songs is available now so I’ve been searching the internet for some new tunes to dance to. I highly recommend “Chez keith et anita” for your listening and viewing pleasure. Enjoy!
