9 Photos That Prove The ‘Thigh Gap’ Has Nothing To Do With How Good You Look In A Bikini

by Erika W. Smith

Social media’s obsession with the “thigh gap” has become inescapable over the past few years, and it’s a harmful obsession: Psychologists have said that society’s fixation on thigh gaps is a cause of eating disorders.

Now, swimwear brand Swimsuitsforall — which offers swimwear in sizes 8 through 34 — is confronting the “thigh gap” obsession head-on in a campaign called “Don’t Mind The Gap.” In the campaign, plus size models including Ashley Graham, Denise Bidot, Jordyn Woods (top), Iskra Lawrence and Marquita Pring pose for bootylicious shots — and most of the photos are noticeably missing a thigh gap.

The campaign is part of Swimsuitsforall’s #MySwimBody movement, asking women to share their swimsuit photos on social media to show that every body is a bikini body.

“Beauty is beyond size, and we are calling on women everywhere to embrace their curves, especially at the beach or by the pool,” Ashley Graham told People.

“The issue with the thigh gap standard is that it’s a one-size-fits-all mentality,” Denise Bidot told Self. “If you look at the world around you, that narrow category leaves out so many beautiful people. Our standard of beauty should be this: Being unique is beautiful.”

Now that’s a standard of beauty we can get behind — pun intended.
