Thanks to the wonderful people at Fresh 102.7, Tegan and Sara will be at Long Island on Saturday, July 26th to perform at the annual “Fresh in the Park” concert.
Fresh has a legacy of bringing big music acts to the biggest little island in the contiguous 48 US states, having already hosted big names like: Sara Bareilles, Plain White T’s, and A Great Big World.
This is certain to be their greatest show yet, though!(Disclaimer: I am a huge Tegan and Sara fan. Read More

Saturday Night Live's, Vanessa Bayer, plays a fake media coach named “Janessa Slater” on a YouTube talk show Sound Advice. Let me tell you, it is freakin’ amazing and I seriously don't know how am I just finding out about this...
Similar to Galifianakis’ comedic talk show, Between Two Ferns, Bayer (or I should say Slater), mocks her guests in a way that only makes herself look bad. Today she has a meeting with Tegan and Sara, tells them that they should switch names and asks them if they have seen the TV show “Sister Sister”. Read More

Ahh, festival season: the most daunting, wonderful, expensive social event of the season. With big games like Coachella (a.k.a. the reason I’ve been crying myself to sleep for the past month), Sasquatch!, and EDC, this year's festival hype has been crazy enough for many of us to dish out hundreds of dollars. Vancouver three-piece The Courtneys make ‘90s-inspired slacker pop that’ll hang out in your head for weeks. Their songs are literally made of sugar, spice, and everything nice. Well, maybe not everything, but still. Sugar = infectious hooks, silly lyrics about Keanu Reeves, and fun track titles like “Nü Sundae.” Spice = Dinosaur Jr.-like riffs, classic punk bass lines, and general badassery. Everything nice = Jen, Courtney, and Sydney, the chillest gals this side of the continent. Read More

I’m stoked to say that even after a long break, indie-pop icons Tegan and Sara have still got it—as demonstrated one Thursday night in January when the Canadian sibling duo packed the basement venue at The Standard in the East Village. The sisters laid down old favorites as well as new tracks off their first album since 2009’s Sainthood. Read More

For all you Tegan and Sara fans out there who may not have heard, there is going to be a new DVD about the singing duo! The Canadian cuties take us on an adventure through their international tour and concerts in their latest project, Get Along. The movies (there are three), also show their relationship as sisters and artists, on and off stage. If any of you have been to a Tegan and Sara show, you know how interactive they are with their audience. Read More

I have not been around much lately. (Although you can read my cover story with SECRET PERSON in next month's Bust!) But I wanted to post about this show and say some things about Japanther, and women, and the music scene.
As you know, if you are in a band or go to shows, rock and roll sexism is alive and well! Brooklyn Vegan and other music sites regularly feature disparaging comments about the appearance of female musicians. Bands with women in them aren't taken seriously. Club owners and bookers assume a woman carrying an amp is someone's girlfriend. Read More
