Canadian author Margaret Atwood’s three part “speculative fiction” series, MaddAddam, will be turned into an HBO series by director Darren Aronofsky. The series consists of three novels: Oryx and Crake, The Year of the Flood, and MaddAddam. The trio follows various characters in a world where a flood has wiped out most of mankind and those remaining are left to survive in society run by corporate operatives rather than any state-sanctioned government. Atwood is set to serve as a consulting producer, while Aronfsky will be executive producer and possibly director. Read More
Upside Down, from writer and director Juan Diego Solanas, depicts the love story of Adam (Jim Sturgess) and Eden (Kirsten Dunst): a couple separated by not only wealth and class differences, but physical gravities that pull in opposite directions. In this fantastical universe, they live on separate planets, which orbit one another. Eden, coming from a world of privilege, and Adam, from a world of poverty, meet as teenagers at the gravity barrier and fall in love. Read More
Scarlett Johansson has officially entered the Hollywood big leagues. Although she’s won BAFTAs and been nominated for a number of Golden Globes in the past, it looks like 2012 is really Scarlett’s year. After starring in The Avengers, the third biggest box office hit ever, she’s set up for a huge payday.   Disney and Marvel studios are reportedly offering the 27 year-old actress $20 million to reprise her role as super-spy Black Widow for The Avengers 2. Helen Mirren has thrown her hat in the ring to become the twelfth Time Lord in the Doctor Who series, and I would really love to see this happen. I started watching Doctor Who this year, and its Buffyesque “Big Bad of the Week” formula sucked me in almost immediately. So far I’ve only seen the 10th and 11th Doctors’ seasons, and both David Tennant and Matt Smith were fantastic. Read More
I'd just like to nerd out for a minute and talk about the fact that the final season of Lost premiered last night -- I can't be the only BUST reader who's obsessed, right?
