Esquire just released a listicle enumerating the “80 Books Every Man Should Read.” That’s fine. This is a men’s magazine appealing to men so the creatures whom their list is intended for is every man. They even admitted that their list is “...unranked, incomplete, and utterly biased.” Supposedly, this list is culled from someone’s idea of the greatest literature available to readers.
But, goddamn, Esquire! Eighty books and ... Read More

Last night we attended a launch party for Rookie Yearbook One--edited by current BUST cover girl Tavi Gevinson!--at McNally Jackson Books in New York City. The room was packed with amazing girls, good vibes, lots of love, candy, and endless outfit inspirations.
Many of the Rookie regulars were there to read excerpts from the book, which is a compilation of the first year's posts from rookiemag.com. The quality of the writing on Rookie is impressive, and we ... Read More

BUST’s current cover girl Tavi Gevinson really has come into her own. The sixteen year old has gone from an adolescent fashion blogger to a mature pop culture curator (she started ROOKIE online magazine, soon to be a book this fall) in no time flat. Tavi hit the last stop on the Rookie Road Trip this Sunday, bringing her personal brand of magic to the City of Angeles. To celebrate the end of the Tavi Train, the teenage blogger held the Strange ... Read More

Sixteen-year-old fashion-blogging phenomenon Tavi Gevinson has already carved out a prominent place for herself in pop culture, appearing in the front rows of Paris fashion shows, the pages of The New York Times, and her own TED talk. Here, she opens up about girls, grinding, and getting shit done.
I'm a 42-year-old woman, and I work for a 16-year-old girl. This seems normal to me, as my philosophy on bosses has always been that I won’t work ... Read More

What were you doing in the summer of your sixteenth year? Going swimming at your local pool? Serving up swirlies at the local ice cream shop? Chillin' at the mall? Publishing your first book of collected pieces from your highly successful online magazine?
If you didn't answer 'yes' to that last question, that's probably because you aren't Tavi Gevinson, the 16-year-old fashion blogger who started her online magazine Rookie at age fifteen. (And who's on the cover of ... Read More

Our favorite teen blogger/superstar Tavi Gevinson is embarking on a national road trip to meet the readers of RookieMag.com, her excellent website for teen girls. Tavi and a few of the staff from Rookie will kick off the tour this Monday June 25th in Brooklyn. The girls will stop in 17 cities and wind up with a big event in LA at the end of July.
The events sound awesome, and will include readings and art shows. Supercute! will play on Monday, and others ... Read More
Confession: I have a bit of a saddle shoe obsession. In my opinion, there's nothing not awesome about these old-school lace-ups. They're super comfy, stylish, and fun in that "sock hop" kind of way. They can elevate a casual look to classic and a dressy look to casual. Add some ruffled socks and we're totally in business.
Right now, some of the saddle-shoe related cuteness I'm digging is this easy D.I.Y. via Rookiemag.com. I can't wait to try ... Read More

Fashion and feminism, to many, are like oil and water. How does one reconcile the desire to look good with a mindset that wants women to be judged by more than simply their appearance? The tension is rooted in more than just contradictory mindsets. There are also the fashion industry facts of body policing, of white-washing the runways, of the over-sexualization of the female form. The list goes on and on.
Miuccia Prada, head designer of (you guessed it) Prada and ... Read More
