Being a teenager can really suck. There’s going to be times when you don’t feel comfortable with getting advice from anyone, but sticking it out alone isn’t the best idea. A few people were lucky enough to have Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker help them out when that situation arose.
In this video from Rookie, the pair answers questions teens have about breakups, first kisses, and unrequited love towards your best friend. As if Carrie and Corin couldn’t be any cooler, they give really great, solid advice. Read More

We can't help but feel inspired when we watch women own the stage during their TED and TEDx talks. They may be brief, but they give us a taste of all the incredible ways ladies are shaping our world—whether they are authors, artists, activists, or teens just trying to figure it all out, when these speakers tell their stories and share their passions they stir something inside of us.
In that spirit, here is a compilation of nine empowering talks that reminded us what feminism is all about. We hope you enjoy them all as much as we did. Read More

Esquire just released a listicle enumerating the “80 Books Every Man Should Read.” That’s fine. This is a men’s magazine appealing to men so the creatures whom their list is intended for is every man. They even admitted that their list is “...unranked, incomplete, and utterly biased.” Supposedly, this list is culled from someone’s idea of the greatest literature available to readers. Read More

Last night we attended a launch party for Rookie Yearbook One--edited by current BUST cover girl Tavi Gevinson!--at McNally Jackson Books in New York City. The room was packed with amazing girls, good vibes, lots of love, candy, and endless outfit inspirations.
Many of the Rookie regulars were there to read excerpts from the book, which is a compilation of the first year's posts from rookiemag.com. The quality of the writing on Rookie is impressive, and we loved seeing the writers (both girls and guys) read their deeply personal stories for the crowd. Read More

BUST’s current cover girl Tavi Gevinson really has come into her own. The sixteen year old has gone from an adolescent fashion blogger to a mature pop culture curator (she started ROOKIE online magazine, soon to be a book this fall) in no time flat. Tavi hit the last stop on the Rookie Road Trip this Sunday, bringing her personal brand of magic to the City of Angeles. To celebrate the end of the Tavi Train, the teenage blogger held the Strange Magic art show at LA’s Space 15 Twenty along with her friend and visual artist Petra Collins. Read More

Sixteen-year-old fashion-blogging phenomenon Tavi Gevinson has already carved out a prominent place for herself in pop culture, appearing in the front rows of Paris fashion shows, the pages of The New York Times, and her own TED talk. Here, she opens up about girls, grinding, and getting shit done.
I'm a 42-year-old woman, and I work for a 16-year-old girl. This seems normal to me, as my philosophy on bosses has always been that I won’t work for someone who isn’t smarter than me, and Tavi Gevinson definitely fits my criteria. Read More

What were you doing in the summer of your sixteenth year? Going swimming at your local pool? Serving up swirlies at the local ice cream shop? Chillin' at the mall? Publishing your first book of collected pieces from your highly successful online magazine?
If you didn't answer 'yes' to that last question, that's probably because you aren't Tavi Gevinson, the 16-year-old fashion blogger who started her online magazine Rookie at age fifteen. (And who's on the cover of BUST's upcoming Aug/Sept issue!) While so much press has focused on her age, it's far more important to focus on her talent. Read More
