Pull on your red pleather boots, slap on some lipstick and a pair of heart-shaped glasses and go out dancing. In a field. Or outside a post office. Or in the forest.
This is what front woman of HERS, Melissa L. Amstutz, does in the video for "Please." She places her hand stiffly on her head, positioning her own body. She dons a platinum blonde wig, and we are forced to see her enact a strange femininity. Gender truly is a performance, and one we all undergo each day. We see that there is so much more to a woman, to Amstutz, than blonde hair and red lips. Read More

OMG, this video. OMG, I love it. But really, though. Oh My Goodness is a Maine-born experimental hip-hop duo now based in Brooklyn and they've just released their latest video for "OMG OMG." It seems pretty simple: black and white film, just the two of them (Therese Workman and Tyler Wood) performing, nothing too fancy. Then the images get all warped and mirror-y and shit gets realer.
The same idea can be applied to the song. It starts off with a catchy enough chorus and melody, which will most definitely be in your head for the rest of your day. (You're welcome. Read More

We've been fans of duo songstresses Smoke Fairies since their debut release Through Low Light and Trees back in 2011. The British gals, Katherine Blamire and Jessica Davies, have fine-tuned their haunting harmonized vocals and powerful dual guitarwork over the past six years. Smoke Fairies put an eerily brilliant spin on blues rock by incorporating classic folk elements into their sound, especially on tracks like "Let Me Know" and "Awake."
The psych-folk ladies are now releasing an EP in honor of Record Store Day this Saturday, April 20th. Read More

New year, new tracks: BUST is giving you an exclusive first-look at the music video "Find Your Home" from Nashville-based singer/pianist Anna Haas, whose jazzy vocals and vintage-styled aesthetic matched perfectly to the clips, which are culled almost entirely from old films of her late grandmother as a young girl growing up in NYC.
Haas was touched and inspired by the footage, which she came across while rummaging through her great grandfather's film reels. Read More

We’re super excited to share this awesome new song with you! JAN, the new solo project from Kim Talon of art-rock duo Eagle and Talon, is releasing her debut album, JAN, today, and BUST has a track just for you. “Red Crust Ow” is a riot grrrl-tinged rocker with plenty of fuzz to go around.
The album was produced by John Goodmanson, who has also produced Blonde Redhead, The Gossip, and Sleater-Kinney. As part of Eagle and Talon, Kim Talon has collaborated with Reggie Watts and toured with Sia and Obi Best. Read More

Newsflash: America loves youth, money, and beauty. Every single one of us is affected, whether it’s through mean comments from our peers or the millions of commercials we’re exposed to on a daily basis. Although journalists and academics both cover the fashion industry’s influence on societal norms, we rarely hear from the models themselves. It’s a taboo in the fashion world to really get to the heart of the matter, since eating disorders and drug use almost always come up.
That’s where About Face: Supermodels Then and Now comes in. Read More

Comedy Central officially announced today that outspoken comedian Roseanne Barr is next in line to be Roasted, joining the list of the network's former Roastees which include Charlie Sheen, Donald Trump, and Betty White. Not only has the feisty feminist delved into the world of reality television, sitcoms, and film to name just a few, but she’s also BUST's very own advice columnist with an endless supply of sass under her belt.
In regards to the highly-anticipated roast, Roseanne remarked, “All I can say is good luck finding anything about me to make fun of... Read More

Last night, the BUST staffers had a Ladies Night Out at the premiere party for Portlandia’s season 2. We have huge TV crushes on the IFC hit, and the second season way exceeded our expectations. The two new eps we watched at the party were packed with delightfully insane jokes, new characters (FYI, “We can pickle that!” is the new “Put a bird on it!”), and old pals like the aggressive bike messenger and feminist-bookstore owners. The blowout was held at NYC’s Museum of Natural History and was a celebrity gawkfest of epic proportions. Read More
