The Taliban shooting of 14-year-old girls’ education rights activist Malala Yousafzai has united Pakistanis in their condemnation of the attack and their support for Malala. Protests and vigils have been held around the country, with some protestors declaring, “I am Malala,” and others carrying a banner reading, “We want our daughters to be like Malala.” Pakistan’s president, prime minster, and political leaders joined Amnesty International and the United Nations in condemning the attack, according to NBC News. We all know the famous 1945 photo of a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square, celebrating the end of WWII. But though we’ve seen it on countless posters and T-shirts and purses and mousepads, it is not what it appears to be.     Feminist blog Crates & Ribbons posted a piece titled "The Kissing Sailor, or, 'The Selective Blindness of Rape Culture,'" in which the author observes that what the photo really shows is not romance but sexual assault.   Creep alert! In Brockport, New York, there is a not-so-new creep in town.  The small town is home to Mr. Thomas Mangan, and Mr. Mangan is a busy, busy man.   On Sunday, August 26, 2012, two females were sunbathing in bikinis on their front yard.  Upon seeing the two young ladies, Mr. Mangan could not help taking pictures of their “crotch” (his word) from inside his house.  Once he had his pictures, he walked over to the ladies to inform them what he did, and why, apparently, it was important for him to take pictures of their crotches. New York photographer Leland Bobbé's project “Half Drag” has sprung into full fruition. Just this past March, he photographed drag queen Sabel Scities with drag makeup on half of his face and au natural on the other. Bobbé posted the stunning portrait online, stating that he had four more different photos in the same style and that his goal was to try and see where these might take him. Only a few months later, the project greatly expanded with over 30 different drag queens photographed thus far, with more to come. Read More
