Now that our tears have dried after the news of the Girls breakup, we can all welcome Christopher Owens’ solo act to our ears with love. Lysandre is a concept album with a stranger sound than that of Girls’ beloved Album and Father, Son, Holy Ghost. The 11-track LP seems even more personal, but think less of that lo-fi sound and more experimental folk. Owens is currently promoting Lysandre with a long list of international tour dates, one of which I was lucky enough to attend. Read More
In honor of Girls’ second season debut and simultaneous Golden Globes sweep, we’d like to present you with the official video for Santigold’s "Girls". The track is featured on the show's soundtrack, and its video appropriately stars a diverse cast of girls and women. Read More
It’s back. Lena Dunham’s much-discussed, often-criticized, critically adored, game-changing TV series Girls will finally return to HBO this Sunday, 1/13. It’s no secret that BUST wants to make one hundred babies with Lena, but some staffers fretted that the show’s second season might not live up to the ever-growing hype surrounding it. To say we were eagerly anticipating Girls’ return is an understatement. So when the season-two screener (of the first four episodes, at least) arrived at BUST HQ, I essentially tackled a coworker to grab it. Read More
I don’t know about you, but I grew up positively drowning in Barbies. As I got older, I began to notice that all mine looked the same. (Go figure!) I read articles explaining just how unrealistic Barbie’s proportions are, and had to come to terms with the fact that I would never have perpetually pointed toes, hair that changes color in the pool, or perfectly symmetrical lady parts. We all know the dangers of comparing ourselves to a small, plastic doll—yet Barbie remains a beloved, if problematic, icon. Read More
Following up on job applications has to be the worst part of the job hunt. You stop in to a coffee shop to check on the application you dropped off two weeks before, only to get a ready-made answer from one of the other employees. It may sting when they tell you they’ve got your resume “on file”, but I’m sure you’ve never gotten an answer quite as honest as the one seen in this deleted scene from GIRLS. Read More
The much-anticipated second season of the hit HBO series GIRLS comes back in January and today we got our first real look with the first trailer for Season 2. January can’t come soon enough. Read More
Remember those days on the playground at recess, running around wild and playing hand games with your friends? You know what I’m talking about. There were millions of them – Miss Mary Mack was the queen of these rhythmic narratives.  For example, I personally remember playing this one called “Shame Shame Shame” in the playground as a kid. If you’re not familiar with this one, the adorable little girl in the video below demonstrates it with her dad. Read More
9-year-old starting quarterback Sam Gordon is the star of the Gremlin youth boys tackle  football team. Sam’s stats: 1,911 rushing yards, 8.2 yards-per-carry, 25 touchdowns, 65 tackles.  According to Sam’s dad, Brent Gordon, there were 172 kids who tried out for a Gremlin team, and Sam tested the fastest in every single speed and agility drill. There’s no doubt about it: Sam is a football star. Oh, yeah. And Sam’s a girl. A video of Sam’s amazing feats is going viral on YouTube, helped along by Buzzfeed. Read More
Clear your freezer: Girl Scout cookie season is nearly upon us. And you’ll need to strengthen your resolve this year, because Scouts aren’t just adorably shilling their addictive treats on a sidewalk near you: they’re also using social media to network with potential customers. Girl Scouts are now using texts, emails, Facebook, and even mobile credit card readers to widen their customer base—and their strategy is working! Despite the economic downturn, cookie sales have continued to rise at a brisk pace. Read More
When I read that a cafe in Tokyo is providing customers the offer to sleep with a girl for about $80, I was like, hold the phone.  It’s not what you’re probably thinking, though--it’s quite literally just sleeping. If you feel like splurging, you can pay an additional 1000 yen (roughly $13) for your female snuggler to pat you on your head while you sleep, or you can stare at each other for one minute (staring contest, go!).
