In 2008 Kathy Griffin became the first woman to make it to #1 on the Billboard Top Comedy List, and five years later she became the third female comedian ever to win a Grammy. As 2014 comes to close, Griffin is keeping busy on a nationwide comedy tour, preparing to replace her late hero Joan Rivers on E!’s Fashion Police, and will be honored in Monday’s release of MAKERS: Women in Comedy on PBS.
The show will explore how the comedian fought to find a place for herself and future generations of women in the world of comedy. Read More

I first discovered the comedian Tig Notaro at the movies. NPR’s This American Life was being livestreamed at various Regal Cinemas across the country one evening, and so I took myself on a date. Not only did I go to the movies in my pajamas and not have to share my popcorn with anybody, but I also had my first laugh-till-I-cried moment with Notaro.
Best. Date. Ever.
Tig Notaro has been featured in BUST before, but in case you don’t know who the comedian is, watch this video where she explains her love for the singer Taylor Dayne. Read More

There’s nothing like a slideshow to get a girl excited about feminism. While that sounds like the single most sarcastic sentence in the history of the world, I promise it was meant in earnest.
Refinery 29 just released a slideshow, “17 Feminists of the Future,” that showcases some of the women (& men!) who are currently working tirelessly to better the future for women everywhere.
Included on the list are familiar names like Sheryl Sandberg, Melinda Gates, Tavi Gevinson, and Malala Yousafzai. Read More

Comedian Tig Notaro was at a career high before a four-month period of hardship began. It included pneumonia, a life-threatening bacterial infection in her digestive tract, unexpectedly losing her mother, and going through a break up. Then, at the beginning of her stand up set at Largo in Los Angeles on August 3, she calmly revealed that she had been diagnosed with stage two breast cancer.
As she took the microphone to boisterous applause, she nonchalantly said, “Thank you, thank you, I have cancer, thank you, I have cancer, really, thank you. Read More
