A meme can speak a thousand words—or more like, can garner tens of thousands of clicks, which, though less poetic, is more accurate when we’re dealing with the black hole of the Internet. This is what Sara Sangster and Linzi Williamson, PhD students of psychology at the University of Saskatchewan, set out to explore. Their research focused specifically on the famed Feminist Ryan Gosling meme-turned-book-turned-best thing to hit our lives ... Read More
No, not every male feminist has to look like Ryan Gosling, though that would be nice.
“But BUST,” you, dear reader, say, “male feminists, like their female and non-binary counterparts, come in all shapes and sizes!” I say this is very true, dear reader; how well put. But in a world where the most recognizable male feminist is Hugo Schwyzer, it’s important to show off some of those men who aren’t ashamed to stand up and say the F ... Read More
Catwoman is my favorite superhero (or villain, depending on how you see her), but Batman is a close second. Before Marvel, DC Comics was the premier comic book empire, producing the ever-compelling Superman comics. When Marvel entered the scene, the came out with less “All American” and boy scout-y characters, embracing the more dark and twisted side to heroism. We saw pain and personal motives in the Marvel characters, and we liked it. In order to ... Read More
In case you need another reason to love Ryan Gosling, here you go. Last week, proud Canadian, actor, eye-candy, and animal lover Gosling wrote a charming letter to The Globe and Mail to declare his outrage at the inhuman treatment of pregnant pigs, and praise Canada's National Farm Animal Care Council for trying to help stop it.
He noted that he was "so heartened to learn that Canada is taking steps toward improving the treatment of animals in the food ... Read More

We love the Feminist Ryan Gosling blog so very much, but now there’s a new feminist meme in town-- one that centers around President Obama.
In light of the many recent Republican attacks on women, we're particularly loving Obama's comments in favor of women's reproductive rights. Nerve.com has turned some of the best quotes into fantastic "Hey Girl" images (essentially, actual Obama quotes preceded by, "Hey girl").
He’s also pointed ... Read More

It’s a statistically unconfirmed fact that 96.27% of all women are Ryan Gosling fans, and while some you might like him for his acting chops or his wonderfully sculpted chin, I’m personally a huge fan of the Ryan Gosling who’s spawned dozens of hilarious memes on Tumblr. From the classic Feminist Ryan Gosling and Fuck Yeah! Ryan Gosling to the more obscure Hey Girl, I Heart NPR (me too, Ryan, me too!), one can nearly always be sure that seeing ... Read More

I think I can say with almost 100% certainty that most of us have seen and loved the many incarnations of the “Hey Girl” Ryan Gosling meme. From the original Feminist Ryan Gosling to Sex Radical Ryan Gosling, us Internet-dwellers have looked to Ryan's face for deep and meaningful social commentary (and eye candy, of course).
But now the “Hey Girl” meme has evolved away from Ryan's chiseled cheekbones to other familiar faces. As a ... Read More

Honestly, I don’t know what People Magazine is smoking. Sure Bradley Cooper can speak French, big whoop. And yeah, he isn’t completely unattractive; I mean his face is pretty symmetrical. But has anyone over there ever heard of a certain someone named RYAN GOSLING?!?! Sure, they named him a runner-up and have the teeny tiniest photo of him on the cover, but I mean 2011 was his year of sexiness.
Let’s review, shall we.
Some men play superheroes ... Read More

I have a friend who keeps telling me that cats invented the Internet and I’m starting to believe him. Every blog or tumblr worth checking out always has something to do with cats. Case in point, Lolcats, the site that just lets you look at cats doing hilarious, adorable things all day long. But maybe you want something more specific. Maybe you want to see cats that look like pirates or maybe Hitler or Parks And Recreation’s Ron Swanson. It’s all ... Read More

John Fiske writes in his book Television Culture, "A representation of a car chase only makes sense in relation to all the others we have seen." This very notion is what makes Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive, bewildering, as the film doesn't ascribe to the formulas of the past. It's mobster, meets 80's action, meets film noir, and audiences just aren't used to that.
Ryan Gosling plays Driver, a stuntman by day and chauffeur for big time robbery at night. What ... Read More
