Texas Cops Search Woman’s Vagina After Smelling Weed

by Elizabeth Ollero

Have you ever been pulled over, say for running a stop sign, maybe even a red light, and end up on the side of the road with an officer’s hand in your vagina? I haven’t, but Charnesia Corley has. After running a stop sign, an officer pulled her over and claimed to have smelled marijuana. After searching her car for an hour – and not finding anything – the officer called in a female deputy to conduct a cavity search. Right there. On the side of the road.

When the cuffed Corley refused (and was unable) to pull down her pants for the cavity search that she didn’t consent to, the officers threw her to the ground where she continued to resist the search. Backup was called, her legs were held open, and her vagina was searched for marijuana. On the side of the road. Without her consent.

Did you know that the Fourth Amendment (we’re talking the Constitution, folks) prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures and requires any warrant to be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause. I get the car search. The officer smelled marijuana. But to search her vagina? On the side of the road?! I would say that’s unreasonable, right? Right.

Corley was, however, found in possession of marijuana. Where they found it hasn’t been released, and this possession does not excuse the unconstitutional act of a cavity search without a warrant. Slam, bam, thank you ma’am.
