Shift is the third album from classically trained musician and Korg employee Natalie Chami. The slow-burning tracks often start simple but build as layers of synths and vocals create a collage of sound. While some songs, like the messy “Climbing,” are overly meandering and may not hold your attention, the album as a whole creates a peaceful, wintery ambiance. At its best, Shift achieves an intimate, home-recorded feel, like on the synth lullaby “Fading Phase.” TALsounds is a great pick if you like the delicate minimalism of múm and the late-night indie electronic sounds of Nite Jewel.
