I’m convinced that the French band Ödland is made of pure magic. Comprised of members Alizée Bingöllü, Lorenzo Papace, Lea Bingöllü, and Isabelle Royet-Journoud, their sound is at times ethereal and haunting–conjuring up images of ghosts and fairies in foggy fields–and at other times childlike and playful, reminiscent of hopscotch and make-believe. With the use of a variety of instruments, including the musical saw and children’s toys (think percussive Old MacDonald songbook meows and moos), their music is beautiful and a little bizarre. The enchantment doesn’t stop there: the members also make music videos that have me dreaming about paper moons and marshmallow clouds. About two years ago I was blown away by the animation for “The Queen of Hearts” off of their first album, Ottocento, and they just released a video for the song “Østersøen,” off of their latest album Sankta Lucia, which might be even more wonderful. Take a ride on a train, a trip to space, and a voyage among sea creatures and watch the video, below!
