My Fashion’s Night Out: Standing in Line, Not Shoplifting and Bedwetting (pt 1)

by Emilie Branch

Fashion’s Night Out is a night of fun filled fashion events taking place in stores around town. I experienced my first FNO last night, in NYC. There was so much happening, and it was all happening at the same time, so it was a good idea to pick one event you really wanted to go to and let anything else just happen. I decided to see Sarah Silverman instead of the Olsen’s judging a karaoke competition, and it is not something I regret.

Everyone who was out last night was totally amped, so the vibe was really good. It was like a mixture of Halloween, New Years, and Europe; especially because of all the heels on Soho cobblestones. When I first got off the train at Prince St, I was confronted by this crowd—it was like Walmart the day after Thanksgiving, but with better denim.

Everyone was clad in their best FNO regalia—it reminded me of the first day of school, if life was a party and everyone agreed on overturning Prop 8.

Our first stop was the Inventory store off Spring St where we got liquored up. People here were creative, cute, and blurry.

At this point I got pretty paranoid that we were going to miss Sarah Silverman, so we headed over to MAC and got in line. There were refreshments (mini chocolate cheesecake and raw tuna… not such a good idea) served by male models (actually they were caterers, but they looked like models). As well as more booze.

After more standing in line, this time inside the store, Sarah Silverman materialized! Here is the video of her stand-up set. I started recording just in time for the first Holocaust joke. It might be a good idea just to play it but not look at the screen. I was shaky and actually broke someone’s glass while filming; I don’t want your motion sickness on my conscience. Now that the video is equipped with a warning, and you understand the terms and conditions of watching, you should really play it. SHE IS SO FUNNY AND I LOVE HER!

(Video will be up in 790 min when youtube has processed it)
