Frances Bean Cobain and Lana Del Rey Make Peace Via Twitter

by Emily Robinson

On June 22, Frances Bean Cobain spoke out about Lana Del Rey’s recent comments regarding the glamorization of musicians that die young, specifically her now infamous statement: “I wish I was dead already.”

In a series of tweets that tagged @LanaDelRey, Cobain reached out to the singer, saying “The death of young musicians isn’t something to romanticizeI’ll never know my father because he died young & it becomes a desirable feat. because ppl like u think it’s “cool” … Well, it’s fucking not. Embrace life, because u only get one life. The ppl u mentioned wasted that life. don’t be 1 of those ppl… ur too talented to waste it away.”

Many of her followers, as well as the media, reacted to her comments as an “attack” – which it simply wasn’t. Cobain then clarified herself, tweeting further that, “I’m not attacking anyone. I have no animosity towards Lana, I was just trying to trying to put things in perspective from personal experience.”

As of yesterday, Lana Del Rey tweeted back with some clarification: “It’s all good. He [the interviewer] was asking me a lot about your dad I said I liked him because he was talented not because he died young… the other half of what I said wasn’t really related to the people he mentioned / I don’t find that part of music glam either.”

Though Del Rey has been put on the defensive because of her statements in the aforementioned Guardian article, it seems that all is well between these two. Now let’s stop creating faux-feuds between women in the media and instead focus on them supporting each other, which is exactly what is now happening with Del Ray and Cobain.
