Estelle’s New Video Totally Conquers

by Emily Robinson

Was “American Boy” your favorite music video of 2009? Estelle’s new video for her song “Conqueror” just may be your favorite music video of 2014; she’s back with her black & white visual aesthetic and effortlessly cool attitude in this new song.

Give it a listen – it’s hella motivational. Think the soundtrack for every summer sporting event ever. Estelle seems to have drawn from an inspiration in dance when envisioning this music video. A prototype of this video had Misty Copeland, the first black female dancer to be featured as the lead for the American Ballet Theater, interpret the song with her own choreography.

The real music video is less straightforward, with more twists and turns. Yet the results are similar – both videos for the song are beautifully incorporating bodies in totally mind-bending ways. Seriously, would like to know how their feet do that. Very important.

BUST snagged an interview with the super talented singer, featured in our October/November issue! Until then, keep on getting revved up with this ultra inspiring jam & get excited for the release of her new album, True Romance, coming out later this year.
