“Dateable Girls Know How to Shut Up”: Texas High School Students Revolt Against “#Lookadouche”

by Eloise Giegerich

Last Wednesday, Texas’ Richardson High School got a visit from Justin Lookadoo, the worst motivational speaker in the world times a gazillion, who has since been given the apt nickname, “Lookadouche.”

Lookadoo is the co-author of the faith-based dating books, Dateable: Are You? Are They? and The Dateable Rules, both of which prove him to be the ultimate Jerky McJerkface. In his books he suggests that young women, “be mysterious. Dateable girls know how to shut up.” He follows it up with these words of wisdom: “Let him lead. God made guys as leaders. Dateable girls get that and let him do guy things.” Umm…NO. JUST NO.

To make matters worse, the co-author of these books, Hayley DiMarco, is a young woman subscribing to and promoting this awfulness. DiMarco writes, “Being a guy is good. They are stronger, more dangerous and more adventurous and that’s okay,” as well as, “Men of God are wild, not domesticated. They fight battles, conquer lands and stand up for the oppressed.” BRB, banging my head against a wall FOREVER.

Following the announcement of Lookadoo’s visit, many (rightfully) angry parents took their concerns to Richardson’s principal and school officials. Among these parents was Dr. Jaime Clark-Soles who said, “I am extremely troubled by the fact that Richardson High School would bring in an ‘expert’ speaker who holds the dangerous, misogynistic views that advance a rape culture such as those expressed on his website.” Thank you, Dr. Jaime, thank you.

Fortunately, kids these days are pretty freakin’ cool. (Well, some of them.) Using the power of social media, students in the Richardson assembly live-tweeted their walking out in protest of the worst person ever Lookadoo.
