Since Best Coast debuted the first single, “The Only Place,” from their new album (also named The Only Place), I have been impatiently awaiting the full album (as in, listening to the single, non-stop, on repeat, for days on end). Like 2010’s Crazy For You, the new album puts Bethany Cosentino’s sentimental and direct lyrics against a backdrop of waves and sun. And, thankfully, NPR’s First Listen is now streaming the whole album here!
Produced by Jon Brion (creator of the beautiful score to Eternal Sunshine of A Spotless Mind and all-around genius composer and producer), the album is mesmerizing and nostalgia inducing. “The Only Place” is still my favorite track, but I highly recommend “Up All Night,” a sweet and earnest love song.
