A True American Heroine Creates A Line for Lady-Vets, And We Love It

by Madison N Nunes

Women have been contributing to military efforts since the military was a thing. During the Revolutionary War women cut off their hair, bound their breasts and joined in the fight – always with the fear of being found out. In Civil War they would enlist under male names; some would transport messages and battle plans in hollowed-out turnips. There are currently 1,853,690 female veterans out in the world.

With that historical background of women kicking ass, you’d think there would be parades for them on Veterans’ Day. You’d think we’d see a lot more women wearing t-shirts boasting of their military pride. But somehow, we don’t.

Well, Army Veteran Nadine Noky took up arms to solve the problem.

In the summer of 2014, Nadine used her post-Army skills in design and advertising to create a line of clothing called Lady Brigade. Its purpose is to create quality, U.S.A.-made apparel for her fellow veterans and servicewomen. What started as a hobby quickly became much bigger, especially with the hope that the new line would bring together women with the military as a common bond.

Lady Brigade’s t-shirts aren’t anything short of awesome and completely shatter expectations of what a veteran is or isn’t. There are outlines of combat boots and the words “This is what a veteran looks like”—we suggest you buy one for every rough and tumble vet-gal in your life.
