5 Feminist News Stories You Might Have Missed This Week

Happy Friday, BUSTies! Are you as exhausted from the week as we are? Too busy being a boss lady to keep track of what to read? No need to fret—here are five news items to catch up on while you relax this weekend.

  1. #WeAreBlackHistory. In this photo project celebrating Black History Month, women from contemporary media pay homage to important black women, posing as some of our favorite cultural icons.
  2. Oregon installed our country’s first openly bisexual governor, Kate Brown. Yay Oregon! We should all be more like Oregon.
  3. Fashion Week blues? We’ve been there—seeing the same skinny models year after year won’t help end a constant war with self-esteem. But designer Carrie Hammer gives us hope: Instead of using high fashion, professional models in her runways show, she’s using “role models.”
  4. Words are hard! At least, they are when you don’t take the time to learn what they actually mean. Upworthy took to asking men about what feminism means to them in order to uncover its gross misunderstanding.
  5. Pussy Riot released their first English language song (and video), titled “I Can’t Breathe.” It’s a powerful stand against power abuse in high places, but be warned: it’s pretty tough to watch.
