In what parallel universe does a woman publicly apologize to a man who threatens to beat her up and make her “suck skin off" his dick? Our universe, apparently. And as an added bonus, this woman is Katy Perry, idol to millions of teenage girls. After Perry tweeted “Just heard a new song on the radio called "I hate being sober" I now have serious doubt for the world,” the song's artist, Chief Keef (real name Keith Cozart) decided to respond. The rapper wrote that Perry should perform oral sex on him and then be physically abused. Read More
I first saw Mykki Blanco perform in a grimy warehouse in Providence, Rhode Island. I was bone-tired after a week of grueling exams, and the only reason I was at the concert at all was because my friend dragged me to the performance, claiming I just had to see this. The venue was cramped, hot, and sweaty, and I almost felt myself regretting the decision until Mykki entered the room like a crescendo. She turned us all from exhausted students into her enthusiastic, ardent fans with one song. Mykki Blanco is an artist in all senses of the word: a poet, a rapper, an actor, a writer. Read More
Two of the baddest divas in the game have collab'd again on "I'm Out," the new party anthem for the ladies. Cici starts it off strong with the club-ready chorus, "Ladies, it's your song, so as soon as this come on/ You should get out on the floor, go and get your sexy on." Of course, everyone's favorite Harajuku Barbie keeps it tough, spittin' fire in her verses. (My personal favorite parts of Minaj's faster-than-the-speed-of-light flow? "I do it big/ I hit 'em with the caps lock!" and fiery shot "You couldn't get a fan if it was hangin' from the ceilin'!" BURN. Read More
Gangsta Boo, or Lady Boo if you prefer, has been one of the baddest ladies in the rap game since 1991. As the first female member of Southern rap group, Three 6 Mafia, she spits clever rhymes with a super ill flow. Her newest mixtape, It's Game Involved, proves that there's no question Boo's still got it. I recommend "Bad Times (Featuring Big K.R.I.T & K-So)," but that's probably just my everlasting attraction to depressing music. If you're not in the mood for the sads, check out the official music video for "Indiana Jones" below, which features original Indiana Jones footage. Read More
Queen diva Big Freedia has done it again. “Feelin’ Yourself” is one catchy-ass hit from the upcoming LP The Idol. The best bounce artist in the biz raps, twerks, and dances in the middle of a boxing ring, all the while managing to not get punched in the face by the two battling ladies. The New Orleans-based rapper commands her audience to “Step into the ring if ya feeling yourself!” and looks damn good while doing so. Read More
