There are a whole lot of reasons to love BUST darling and comedian extraordinaire Mike Birbiglia. But chalk up one more for his new movie Sleepwalk With Me. Based on his one-man show of the same name, and produced by This American Life heartthrob Ira Glass, we at BUST HQ have been excited about this movie for a while. (Don’t believe us? This movie has been out for a few weeks, but if you don’t live in a major city you might not have seen it around. Luckily, the Sleepwalk With Me official website allows you to request that the movie come to your town if it’s not already there.
Sleepwalk With Me chronicles the deterioration of Birbiglia’s relationship with his former girlfriend, the development of his increasingly dangerous sleepwalking habit, and the bumpy ascent of his comedy career. And even though this all sounds very dramatic on paper, it’s actually pretty fucking hilarious, just like Birbiglia himself.
I don’t want to spoil too much, since I actually want you to go see this movie, but if you enjoy laughing, have secret unrealized life ambitions, or have ever attempted to date another human person, this movie is for you. (Meaning this movie is for everyone. )
I’ll leave you all with this quote from Birbiglia, in case you’re still not convinced:
“I was living with this girl for a while. We worried about different things. One day I was like, ‘What do you fear most?’ And she was like, ‘I fear you’ll meet someone else, you’ll leave me, and I’ll be all alone.’ And she was like, ‘What do you fear most?’ And I was like, ‘Bears.’”
