Pat Robertson Tells Man To Move To Saudi Arabia So He Can Beat His Wife

by Erika W. Smith

Sometimes, when I read about whatever horrible thing televangelist Pat Robertson has said lately, my first instinct is to laugh — so much of what Robertson says seems straight out of the Onion. I saw this graphic going around on Tumblr recently and promptly burst into hysterical giggles:

YOU GUYS, FEMINISTS ARE LESBIAN COMMUNIST WITCHES WHO GO AROUND MURDERING MEN AND CHILDREN!!!!

But once I calm down, I remember that Robertson is an active political figure and the host of an immensely popular TV show, and about a million people tune in to watch him spew his hate every day. Then I start to lose faith in humanity.

The latest Pat Robertson news may be the worst yet. Just a few days after appearing at a campaign rally with Mitt Romney, Pat Robertson told a man to become a Muslim and move to Saudi Arabia so he can beat his wife.

A viewer wrote to The 700 Club to ask Robertson for advice about his wife, whom he said “has no respect for me as the head of the house.”

Robertson responded, “Well, you could become a Muslim, then you could beat her.” He continued, “You know, I don’t think we condone wife-beating these days, but something’s got to be done.” He went on to label the caller’s wife a “rebellious child” and a “13-year-old in a 30-year-old woman’s body.”

“Now, what do you do with that?” he asked. “You can’t divorce her, according to the Scripture, so I say move to Saudi Arabia!”

WOW! Insulting domestic violence survivors, Muslims, and women, all at the same time. What a class act.

You can watch the clip for yourself here:

Remember, folks, this man supports Mitt Romney.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some witchcraft to practice.
