Have you ever heard anyone sneer the annoying phrase “Take a picture, it’ll last longer?” Well, we’re pretty glad the ladies in the films featured in the exhibition “Women and Their Cameras” listened! Starting tomorrow, August 3rd, the Rubin Museum of Art in New York will be screening a series of iconic films that all feature various cool gals taking snapshots. The series kicks off with the 1978 thriller Eyes of Laura Mars, starring the dazzling Faye Dunaway as a fashion photographer who specializes in “stylized violence.” Following, is the classic Boogie Nights, featuring boogie babes Julianne Moore and Heather Graham. The list continues with plenty of more unforgettable films, including High Art, Everlasting Moments, and The Unbearable Lightness of Being.
At each screening, a talented New-York based lady photographer will introduce the classic film, including the likes of Susanna Howe, Lisa Kereszi, Sheila Metzner, Victoria Sambunaris, and Sophie Elgort. Additionally, the screenings will complement the museum’s current art exhibition “Candid,” which chronicles the amazing career of India’s first female photojournalist Homai Vyarawalla. With all of these incredible films, photos, and badass women, it’s hard not to smile and say ‘cheese.’
