Where to Get Nice Art on the Cheap

by Lan Truong

Finding cool and affordable art to hang on your walls can feel downright impossible. Sure, you can go to a big-box store and pick up some okay looking art in the home decorating section, but if you’re on the hunt for some jazzier pieces for your walls, check out the following websites.

1. 20×200: Prints start at just $20! That’s right, $20! Prices go up to $200 for larger, more limited prints. Prints can be purchased unframed or framed (framed prints costs extra).

2. Tiny Showcase: A portion of sales from each print is donated to a charity chosen by the artist.

3. Society 6: There are a bajillion prints on this site, lots of which are under $20; you’re bound to find something you love. Prints can be purchased unframed or framed (framed prints costs extra).

4. Let’s Swap It: This site’s a bit different than the other ones. New prints are posted a few times a month and if you want one, you can submit something to swap for it (you can submit anything to swap: a stuffed animal, a print that you’ve grown tired of, etc.). Not all swaps are accepted, though; the artist gets to choose which ones to accept. I’ve gotten a couple of really nice prints from here.

All the websites above constantly add new prints to their stock, so be sure to check back often for new art. Or, if you’re feeling crafty, pick up our April/May issue and see how you can make your own work of art using paint swatches.
