Watch Sexist Talking Head Get His Ass Handed to Him By CNN’s Soledad O’Brien

by Katrina Pallop

I go freakin’ nuts for Soledad O’Brien. She is a journalistic force to be reckoned with, and is absolutely fearless about calling people (namely blustering, biased dudes) on their bullshit. Just last week, she took down the chest-beating Senator Ron Johnson for his incredibly sexist remarks about Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; and a couple months back, she simply laughed in the face of RNC Chairman Reince Priebus’ contradictory remarks about Mitt Romney’s stance on abortion.

This time around, during a roundtable discussion on CNN about women in combat, O’Brien tricks her overtly sexist guest Kingsley Browne into agreeing with a racist quote about cohesion in the military. Here is the quote that O’Brien presents:

The Army is not a sociological laboratory; to be effective it must be organized and trained according to the principles which will ensure success…

Browne is more than happy to agree to the sentiment, thinking that it’s referring to women in the military. But O’Brien pulls the rug out from under him, clarifying that the quote was actually written in the 1940s in reference to segregation in the Army. Browne gets very blustery and tries to backpedal, to no avail.

“Race and sex are different,” he says. “Race is, of course, biological.” Because sex, as we all know, it totally circumstantial and voluntary, right? Take this as another indication that people who oppose gender equality will always find themselves on the wrong side of history.
