On a recent episode of Billy on the Street, Billy Eichner created an obstacle course inspired by Shonda Rhimes and her many TV hits, and taking on that obstacle course – which Billy called “Gay American Ninja Warrior” – was the one, the only Amy Sedaris.
A few of the physical challenges pay homage to Shonda Rhimes’s many achievements, like “bursting through the glass ceiling at ABC” and “the NAACP Image Award ball pit.” Others poked fun at some of the more ridiculous aspects of the TGIT shows, like Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder. One of my personal favorites was when Billy coached Amy through a Grey’s Anatomy obstacle by saying, “There’s a woman dying over there but quick, fuck that nurse. Fuck that nurse. Who cares about the woman. Fuck that nurse.”
Billy’s classic commentary makes the already hilarious pop culture obstacles even more ridiculous. Lines like “you broke that gay’s spine” and “look at these self-righteous whities” made me lose it. Amy Sedaris, with her physical comedy (you should see her hump the air) and loud shrieks and cackles, make her the perfect person to take on the challenges and become the new mayor of Shondaland.
