Tina Fey Reveals Her Secret Girl-Crush

by Brenda Pitt

Last Sunday, Carol Burnett finally received her Mark Twain Prize for American Comedy, and none other than Tina Fey was there to present it to her. Oh yeah, and Amy Poehler, Martin Short, Lucie Arnaz, Maya Rudolph, and Julie Andrews also came out to honor the great lady comic.

Amy Poehler took on the role of Burnett’s disgruntled and overworked assistant, coming on stage to shout, “Carol broke the glass ceiling — as well as the glass table with a baseball bat. She kept me in stitches — literally!” Fey, whose work is inspired by Burnett, similarly paid tribute to the star, explaining that she adores her so much that it “is just shy of creepy.” Andrews told the story of her own romance with the star: in an attempt to prank Mike Nichols, the two funny ladies kissed on an elevator.

Burnett’s acceptance of the award was just as hilarious as those who honored her. She waited a long time for this, but she understands because, as she puts it, “there are a lot of people funnier than I am, especially here in Washington.” Congratulations, Carol! We love you.
