For their sophomore effort, funk-soul duo Jillian Hervey and Lucas Goodman of Lion Babe return with a more unique and polished sound since parting ways with their major label, opting to release the album themselves in order to gain greater creative control. The ’70s-soul- and disco-flavored “The Wave” is a dance-floor ready earworm featuring a guest appearance from rapper Leikeli47. On the title track, Hervey shows off her impressive vocal range, even slipping into a rap interlude and ending with ethereal layered vocals. Cosmic Wave is packed with plenty of dance ready jams with catchy rhythms sure to keep you moving. (4/5)
