Surprise! Ivanka Trump Is Against Equal Pay

by Kat Kothen-Hill

Ivanka Trump shows she’s all bark and no bite when it comes to women’s issues.

In her role as an assistant to the President, Ivanka has made working women one of her core issues. But now, Ivanka has announced her support for the White House’s decision to scrap a policy to require businesses to disclose employee pay along with the gender, ethnicity and race.

“Ultimately, while I believe the intention was good and agree that pay transparency is important, the proposed policy would not yield the intended results,” Ivanka told The Wall Street Journal.

The White House has cited the policy was ditched because it place too much burden on businesses and would require excessive paperwork. The policy, passed by the Obama administration in 2016, was set to begin in the spring of next year.

Jenny Yang, the Commissioner of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission at the time the new requirements were drafted, supported the policy and claimed it would have helped identify patterns in pay discrimination.

Back in April, Ivanka tweeted about the importance of equal pay and the elimination of the gender gap.

According to a Pew Research Center analysis, white women make 82% of the wages that men do. And it’s even worse for women of color. Black women and Hispanic women earn 65 cents and 58 cents on the white man’s dollar, respectively.
