Is Melissa McCarthy Returning For The ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival? This News Gives Us Hope

by Olivia Harrison

Now that Paul Anka the dog has committed to the Gilmore Girls revival, there’s really only one person missing. You all know who I’m talking about: sweet Sookie St. James. As incredibly happy as we all are that the utterly hilarious Melissa McCarthy’s career has BLOWN UP in the past eight years, Stars Hollow would seem literaly hollow without Lorelai’s BFF. Although McCarthy still has not committed to Netflix’s upcoming revival, some recent casting news has us hopeful that she may still make a cameo.

On Friday, Jackson Douglas announced via Twitter that he will be returning for the Gilmore Girls revival.

Douglas played Sookie’s husband Jackson Belleville during the show’s seven-season run. To be honest, that storyline where he lied to poor Sookie about getting a vasectomy made me kind of hate Jackson, but I can’t help but be a little excited that his return may mean that Sookie comes back too.

There still seems to be some confusion about what exactly has been discussed between creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, McCarthy, and her people. According to Sherman-Palladino, an offer for McCarthy is still on the table: “She’s really fucking busy. But the thing I have said [to her team] is, ‘Look, if Melissa is available and has an afternoon free, I’ll write her a scene. Melissa was one of us. If she has a spare moment to run over [to the set] — even if for just a cameo — we would be totally game. And if it’s a last-minute thing, I would write her in and we would figure it out.’ That’s the way we left it.” McCarthy, however, tweeted this:MM

What does this mean!?

Sherman-Palladino has also said that if McCarthy doesn’t end up being able to make a cameo, Sookie’s absence will be explained at some point during the revival. With that in mind, here’s what I’m worried about: If Jackson returns without Sookie, could this mean that she’s dead or something? Maybe she just got fed-up with Jackson’s lying ass and poor commitment to birth control and decided to run away and be a famous chef somewhere awesome. I think I’d be alright with that.

At this point, we can only dream and discuss our outlandish theories. The one thing we know for sure though is Jackson is back. We’ll just have to wait and see what that means for Sookie.
