Intriguing and Influential Women at 92Y

The 92nd Street Y’s season is off to a great start! Through June, the center will host a number of smart and powerful women.

On Sunday, 1/23, drop in to see Congresswoman Nita Lowey, author Gloria Feldt, and journalists Rebecca Traister and Carol Jenkins discuss women, power and politics. As a personal aside, I spent one summer interning for Congresswoman Lowey, and her dedication to women’s issues is truly inspiring! You won’t want to miss this.

On Thursday, 2/17, comedian Judy Gold will be interviewing the one and only Whoopi Goldberg. This hilarious duo will surely make you laugh your winter blues away.

On Wednesday, 3/2, Internet high priestess Arianna Huffington and Nobel Prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz are set to discuss positioning America for the 21st century.

On Thursday, 3/3, get your fashion fix by hearing Stacy London talk. The host of TLC’s addictive “What Not To Wear” will examine the importance of self-esteem and personal style.

On Wednesday, 3/9, view the documentary Ahead Of Time, which follows the life of Ruth Gruber, who became the youngest PhD in the world before becoming a respected international foreign correspondent and photojournalist at 24. Stay put after the credits roll to hear from the filmmakers and Gruber herself discuss her 7 decades long career!

On Thursday, 3/10, don’t miss the iconic multi-media artist Laurie Anderson. Anderson will discuss her interests, collaborations and recent work with Robert Storr.

On Tuesday, 3/22, watch Forgotten Refugees, a documentary on the stunning life of Regina Bublil Waldman. As a Jew born in Libya, she was forced to leave the country after the Six-Day War and barely made it out alive. Waldman, who is now a prominent human rights advocate, will speak immediately following the film.

On Wednesday, 3/23, America’s favorite hostess Ina Garten will be interviewed by New York Times columnist Anna Quindlen. Garten will discuss her past as a White House nuclear policy analyst (who knew!?) and what it’s like to be a successful female entrepreneur.

On Monday, 4/11, Shirley Maclaine will talk about her life as an iconic actress, activist and author.

On Tuesday, 5/4, Dan Abrams,  chief legal analyst for NBC and author of the upcoming book Man Down: Proof Beyond Reasonable Doubt That Women Are Better Cops, Drivers, Gamblers, Spies, World Leaders, Beer Tasters, Hedge Fund Managers, and Just About Everything Else will talk with Katie Couric about why women rule.

On Thursday, 6/9, writer and director Nora Ephron and journalist Rebecca Traister  will talk about the roles of women in politics, media and entertainment.
