Happy International Peace Day!

by Web Intern

Probably the best holiday ever, International Peace Day (which is today!) is a one day, worldwide call for ceasefire, global unity, and understanding. According to the U.N., who created the holiday back in 1981, Peace Day encourages 24-hours of political and personal peace; in other words, while governments slow down military combat, individuals can call a truce with that frustrating co-worker, nagging neighbor, or even that gosh-darn-slow-as-molasses red light that would, on any other day, incite undue rage.

If you’ve never celebrated International Peace Day before, internationaldayofpeace.org has a huge list of suggested activities that perfectly fit with Peace Day’s chill tone; my faves are ‘Write a Poem for Peace’, and ‘Plant a Rock for Peace’ (no joke, it’s an awesome idea: read more info here ). And don’t forget to check around your town for local Peace Day goings on. For instance, the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh is free and open special hours today to celebrate the International Day of Peace and the start of this year’s G-20 Summit. Factory girls and guys can also get in on screen-printing workshops and a collaborative Chalk4Peace mural.

Peace Out!
